Title: 'The Whole Darned Mess'
Fandom: Original Fiction
Characters: Original
Rating: G
"So, how did your date with Nate go?"
"It wasn't bad. He took me to the ice rink."
"He took you skating? I didn't know you could ice skate."
"Neither did I. Mainly because I can't. But Nate can, so he decided that it might be fun to teach me."
"You had a good time, then?"
"Mostly."
"Only mostly? What does that mean?"
"Well, the date was terrific. Up until Nate broke his leg."
"Wait a minute! You just told me that Nate could skate. How did he break his leg?!"
"Ugh. Actually, Nate wasn't the one who broke it. It was my fault, entirely. He had a leg out, showing me how to push myself forward. When I tried to follow his lead, I landed on him. And, well..."
"You can't call that your fault, though, any more than you could call it his. Accidents happen."
"That's what he said. He insists that I not blame myself. But he was being such a good sport about the whole thing that I can't help feeling guilty over the whole darned mess."
"Wowwie. Guess I can't blame you, there. I'd feel pretty rotten, too."
